'''Marxism''' is the name given to a set of ideas, theories, and political [[ideology|ideologies]] that developed out of the works of [[Karl Marx]] and [[Friedrich Engels]]. After Marx's death, the term Marxism came to describe a holistic worldview that included theories of [[philosophy]], [[history]], [[politics]], [[economics]], and [[science]].

Since its inception in the 19th century, "classical" Marxism was developed into a number of different schools of thought as new conditions, namely the rise of [[Imperialism|capitalism-imperialism]], demanded advancements in [[Revolution|revolutionary]] theory. The most prominent of these schools is [[Marxism–Leninism]], the official state ideology of the [[Soviet Union]] (one of the first [[Socialist state|socialist states]]).
