Reddit is a content aggregation and forum platform that bills itself as "the front page of the Internet". It contains user-created subforums called subreddits where communities are. Users often use the platform for consuming cat imagery and news.
Some Reddit users have used the platform for hate speech and harassment campigans. On July 10, 2015, Ellen Pao step down as the platform's CEO due to harassment from users of five subreddits that were shut down. The shutdown was made to combat against hate speech that prevalent among the subreddits. [1]
