Leftypedia is an aspiring online encyclopaedia dedicated to providing a coherent platform about leftist politics. We want to demystify what we believe to be one of the most misunderstood ideologies, either for people who believe left-wing theoretical texts are too dense to read or those who have strong opinions about it without having read anything by prominent leftist thinkers. We hope to provide explanations that are readily comprehensible and for our knowledge to grow as you become a part of it. In short, our aim is to let the left-wing movement do the talking, and for us to expound upon it.
History
Leftypedia is a leftist non-sectarian encyclopedia dedicated to the analysis of history and politics from a critical and radical perspective and dissemination of socialist concepts. Initially founded in 2019 after Marxistpedia went down, Leftypedia gained users from a variety of sources, including the /leftypol/ imageboard as well as leftist Reddit communities. The site existed at the leftypedia.org domain name until it was removed in July 2022, but was revived under the wiki.leftypol.org domain later that year, hosted and maintained by leftypol.org, where it existed between 2024 to 2026, when it was revived at leftypedia.org.
Aims
The aims of Leftypedia include providing accessible introductions to topics in leftist theory, dispelling popular misconceptions of the left, document the views of Marxists and other far-left tendencies in one place, and to promote left-unity without forcing it.
Guidelines
The aim of Leftypedia is to create a broad space for leftist counter-hegemonic theorizing, allowing kinds of content that might not be considered encyclopedic by the standards of Wikipedia but are interesting to the left.
