The Communist International (shortened to Comintern), also known as the Third International, was a communist international organization of Marxist–Leninist parties throughout the world, under the leadership of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolshevik).

The Comintern was founded in 1919 after a split in the socialist and workers' movement between the social-chauvinist and reformist parties and the revolutionary parties.[1] It was disbanded in 1943 and replaced with the Cominform.
