Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is a big-tent political organization in the United States. It is multi-tendency, although much of it is in alignment with social democratic and reformist positions. It is one of the largest left-wing organizations in the United States, claiming to have over 90,000 members in 2026.[1]
In the 2020s, DSA gained widespread attention with the election of its members into relatively important government posts, most notably Zohran Mamdani in New York City.
Caucuses
Several ideological caucuses of DSA exist, some of which explicitly proclaiming themselves Marxist. This includes Red Star Caucus and the Marxist Unity Group.[2]
Criticism
Revolutionary socialists have been critical of DSA for its endorsement of politicians in the Democratic Party. Some have even described the organization as "social-fascist", arguing that its reformist approach ultimately weakens the workers' movement against the far-right.[3]
