Free and open-source software

Free and open-source software is software that grants users the right to modify and distribute without permission. Richard Stallman of the GNU Project created the concept of free software. He would defined free software under the document The Free Software Definition. Despite its name, free software can be avaliable for commerical use.[1] On the other hand, open-source software was defined according to the Open Source Initiative as software with source code and free redistribution.[2]

In contary to free and open-source software is proprietary software which grants the developer's control and limit users' freedom.
