Memes
A meme is an idea or system of ideas transfered between society, often changed for their environments, to suit the needs of those using them, or to adapt to external condition. The idea was coined by Richard Dawkins in 1976 when he was researching an cutural version of genetics. Memes are often associated with the Internet.[1]
Left-wing memes
/leftypol/ is often the source where many of its memes are used by the online left. These include Porky, a cartoon character from a 1920 Soviet agitprop poster, Nazbol Gang[2] political catgirls, posadism, and references to several leftist figures including Enver Hoxha, Murray Bookchin, Max Stirner, and Paul Cockshott.
Outside of /leftypol/, other left-wing memes had been used such as the quote "so much for the tolerant left" used by leftist Twitter to mock conservatives who sincerely use the phrase to describe examples of when they feel the left is intolerant of their beliefs, Antifa supersoldiers,and "bash the fash", a catchphrase associated with anarchist and antifa movements which some read as advocating for violence as a means to end the spread of fascism.
