The State and Revolution: The Marxist Theory of the State and the Tasks of the Proletariat in the Revolution [a] is a text by Vladimir Lenin written between August to September 1917 and published in 1918. It is of central importance to the Marxist conception of the state, maintaining that it is an organ of class rule created as a result of irreconcilable class contradictions.
The seventh chapter of The State and Revolution was never completed as Lenin was preoccupied with the October Revolution, an occurrence Lenin welcomed.[1]
